How many times does
It cross your mind
The agony of the suffering
Is it
When a commercial pop up
Between your favorite programs
When the donation telemarketer
Rings your phone
Or
When you see them standing
On the corner
Begging for change
Does it stop you in your tracks
Does your heart start to beat
Something called compassion
It saddens me
To see people turn their nose up
On the vulnerable
And
It is easy
To differentiate from
The scammers
And
The abandoned
Yes
Of course
It is a discomfort
A tender subject
Or
Maybe an irritation
But
What if it was you
Or
Your family member
Would your attitude change
To help the vulnerable
Because
It is so dismal
That plenty of people are
Willingly to ignore this epidemic
It is too many people
Living
Homeless
Without food
Without anything
Struggling to beat
The everso changing weather
And
The few that are willing to help
Are barely making a dent
They are a needle in a haystack
Because for every one of them
Thousands are still going without
Dying before they receive anything
Veterans
Mentally Ill
Runaways
Families who lost everything
In disasters
All are victims to this
And
Just because you think your
Situation is solid
Does not mean it is unbreakable
You too can be the one of many
Abandoned
Alone
Scared
Hungry
Dirty
Struggling to survive
On a daily
From life
And
From the people
Eager to harm
Bash
Kill them
Because it was funny
No one including the homeless
Had dreams to growing up
And
Being helpless
